Background
Bowbelski studied architecture at the Warsaw Institute of Technology 1924-28 and matriculated at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts 1930-32. 1929-39 he was affiliated with Kola Artystów Grafików Reklamowych, producing posters and advertising art.

Arrest and Deportation to Auschwitz
September 22, 1940, he was arrested in Warsaw and then deported to Auschwitz, where he was assigned number 4135.

Work Assignments at Auschwitz
Bowbelski worked in the Schlosserei (locksmith's workshop) and making furniture at the SS firm Deutsche Ausrüstungswerke.

Art Produced at Auschwitz
He also worked in the camp museum, where he produced landscape paintings, stained glass, portraits of his fellow inmates, and decorated postcards.

Release from Auschwitz
February 27, 1942 Bowbelski was released from Auschwitz.  His posters and other artworks are located in the collections of the Wilanów Poster Museum, the Warsaw Museum for the History of the Polish Revolutionary Movement, and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
